ICA (International Council on Archives)
Mission
  To establish, maintain and strengthen cooperative relations between archivists of all countries and
  between all archiving institutions, especially through the exchange of information.
Establishment
  Paris, August 1950 (sponsored by UNESCO)

  1,400 members in 190 countries as of late 2007.

Koreas membership status
  - Joined as a state member (level A) in July 1979.
  - Conference participation: The 11th (88) to 15th (04) International Congresses and CITRAs
    (in 81, 82, 86, 90, 91, 95, 99, 02, 04, 05, 06, and 07)
  - Scheduled to participate in the 16th Congress to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in July 08.
  - Scheduled to participate in the ICA's International Conference of Round Table on Archives (CITRA) in
    Malta in November 2009
  - Scheduled to host the Meeting of ICA Executive Board meeting in June 2010 in Korea
EASTICA (East Asian Regional Branch of the ICA)
Mission
  To exchange records management information and technology among the countries in the East Asia region.

  July 93, Beijing, China.

  - Acceded as a founding member in 93.
  - Elected as Chairman of EASTICA from 00 to 03.

China
The delegates of the State Archives Administration of China visited NAK in Sep. 96.
  - Discussed possible ways of cooperation in connection with the collection of records and staff training.
Signed to implement the Korea-China Records Exchange Program in June 97.
  - Signed in Beijing, China. Established a framework within which archivists may visit the facilities of the
    other  party and Korea-related records in China may be collected.
The Vice Director General of the SAAC and 6 other persons visited the HQ and Busan branch in Aug. 97.
6 Korean delegates, delegates from the SAAC and archivists from Shanghai paid a visit in Oct. 98.
6 persons from the SAAC visited the HQ and Busan branch in June 99.
Amended and renewed the Korea-China Records Exchange Program in July 01.
6 persons from the SAAC visited the HQ and trained in the computerization of records in Aug. 02.
2 Korean delegates participated in the opening ceremony for the new building of the Shanghai Records
  Center in Apr. 04.
Amended and renewed the Korea-China Records Exchange Program in Dec. 04.
5 delegates of the SAAC visited NAK in Oct. 05.
15 delegates of the SAAC visited Korea to participate in the First Korea-China Records Management
  Policy Discussion in May 07.

Russia
Signed a protocol with the Russian Department of Document Administration to enter into an agreement
  on records exchange and cooperation in Dec. 96.
Signed the Korea-Russia Record Keeping Exchange Agreement in Nov. 00.
  - To promote the cooperative relations between the two countries and facilitate the collection of
   Korea-related records within Russia.
Signed a protocol with Russian Federal Archives Office on the terms of the exchange of record copies
  on Sep. 8, 05.
Signed a cooperative agreement with Russian State Archive of Social and Political History on Sep. 9, 05.
Signed an agreement with Russian Federal Archival Agency on the cooperation and use of records on
  Sep. 9, 05.
4 Korean delegates visited Russia and Hungary in June 07.
  - Signed agreements on the collection of records with Russian document administration offices.
  - Established a national framework within which Korea-related records within East Europe may be collected.
Mongolia
5 Korean delegates visited Mongolia to discuss cooperative measures with regard to record keeping
  in Oct. 01.
Signed the Korea-Mongolia Records Management Exchange Agreement in Oct. 02.
  - The Director General of the National Archival Administration of Mongolia and 2 other officials visited NAK.
The employees of the National Archival Administration of Mongolia received training in Korea in Sep. 03.
The employees of the National Archival Administration of Mongolia received training in Korea from June 28,
  06 to July 28 06.
Donated records preservation equipment to the National Archival Administration of Mongolia in June 07.
  - 3 Korean delegates visited Mongolia to participate in the donation ceremony.
Dispatched advisory group of Korean specialists for the construction of new repository at the request
  of the National Archival Administration of Mongolia. (1st: Dec. 2008, 2nd: Jun. 2009)
Vietnam
The Director General and 2 other delegates from the State Records and Archives Department of Vietnam
  visited Korea in Oct. 07.
  - Was received by the Vice Minister in audience on Oct. 8, participated in the signing of the Exchange
   Agreement on Oct. 9, and visited the Historical Records Repository on Oct. 11.
Two Korean delegates visited the State Records & Archives Department of Vietnam in Hanoi as well as
  National Archives Center No. 2 and No. 3 (May 2009).

  - Consulted detailed implementation plan on the exchange agreement of both countries
The UK
3 Korean delegates visited the National Archives of the UK in Oct. 07.
